Libby Schrum

After spending most of her childhood in Texas and answering a simple question, “If you could do anything, what would you do?” with the reply “Something with art,” LIBBY SCHRUM moved to Maine to learn how to build fine furniture, enjoy living in a place with all four seasons, and find work that didn’t involve wearing pantyhose or talking on the phone all day. Over the last 20 years, she has worked as a self-employed furniture maker, taught woodworking to other curious individuals both in school settings and one-on-one in her studio in Camden, built interiors for high-end yachts, worked in a cabinetmaking shop, and earned an MFA in furniture making. When she’s not designing and making or teaching furniture, Libby can usually be found spending weekends up at camp or trying to stay upright on her mountain bike. She is newly obsessed with fishing, which is a great excuse to get out on the water in a canoe or kayak, if an excuse was ever needed.
