Kate Emlen

With a background in printmaking and letterpress printing, KATE EMLEN started professional life as a graphic designer for colleges and museums. Her limited-edition silk screen posters for those institutions led to an interest in painting. Eventually she ditched the screen for the canvas, and is now a full-time landscape and still life artist. During the winter she is dry docked in her studio in Vermont. After mud season, she returns to paint her familiar haunts around the Blue Hill peninsula where she has spent lifelong summers. She enjoys sailing, scrambling over rocks, and dancing tango. Throughout the years, monotype printing has had a particular hold on her, for both its mystery and endless possibilities.
