Is there anything better than just messing about in boats? Many sailors come to WoodenBoat school to learn new skills, but for some, a chance to sail about in one of Maine’s world-class environments is just what they need. We will sail everyday, exploring the islands that abound Jericho Bay and the Eggemoggin Reach or just in the harbor trying out new boats and techniques. We will have the opportunity to pack our lunches and go exploring as a group. Participants may bring their own small sailboat or use any of the WoodenBoat School’s fleet of sailboats. Trying out new boats is half the fun when the whole fleet is an option!
Please note, while there will always be teachable moments this is NOT a learn-to-sail class. Participants should have small boat sailing experience, and be familiar with the characteristics of non ballasted sailboats. These types of open boats can be wet and may capsize in certain conditions. Participants should be aware of this and be able to handle themselves accordingly. You will need to move around in small spaces while under way and be able to enter and exit boats on a beach, dock, or float.
