Lofting is one of the essential skills for a wooden boatbuilder, and a word that strikes fear in the hearts of many… but it doesn’t have to!  Join us, and we will walk you through the process in easy-to-understand steps.  Although much of this process is now commonly done with computers, lofting by hand instills a deeper understanding of the relationship between the two-dimensional lines and the three-dimensional hull.

With experienced guidance from Jake and Packer, you will work in teams to loft small craft.  We will cover topics like setting up a good loft floor (or table), laying out an accurate grid, translating a table of offsets, drawing waterlines, stations, and buttock lines, expanding the transom, and developing stem bevels.  Lofting is an enjoyable part of the boatbuilding process, and not nearly as intimidating as it may seem.  Learn how to see boats in a whole new light!
