Vince Royce joined our Waterfront staff in 2018 after many years of taking classes at WoodenBoat School and participating in our annual Alumni Work weeks. Growing up in Princeton, New Jersey, without a family boat, Vince enjoyed summers traveling and vacationing where there were opportunities to sail, paddle, and row. A memorable fifth grade program took him canoeing through the New Jersey Pine Barrens. He studied mathematics and sculpture at Bennington College in the Green Mountains of Vermont and he still calls Vermont home. Vince earns a living as an arborist and woodworker and lives with his partner on their farm and goat dairy. He first visited the WoodenBoat campus in 1998 and returned in 2000 to build a beautiful Maine Guide canoe that he won in the class raffle. The hook was set and he’s been back every summer since.
