Mary Laury

MARY LAURY has been teaching water color painting since 1989. For most of her life she has lived in the 200-year old farmhouse that was her parents’ home on Graham Lake in Ellsworth, Maine. The coastal scenes and the blueberry fields that Mary paints are natural areas of this beautiful state and her flower portraits are all native plant species. She feels very strongly that it is important to paint things that one truly loves. Not only does it give the painter intimate acquaintance with the subject, but also, the feeling of affection comes through in the painting. Mary teaches watercolor painting, botanical painting and drawing, as well as ballroom and Latin dancing for many organizations including Elderhostel International; College of the Atlantic, Bar Harbor, Maine; Schoodic Arts for All; The Humbolt Field Research Institute, and the Somes-Maynell Wildlife Sanctuary. She is listed in the Maine Arts Commission’s juried register of Maine artists. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Hancock County Cultural Network, ArtsCollective of Maine, and Learning Unlimited. A landscape and botanical painter, her work can be seen at Archipelago, the Island Institute’s gallery in Rockland, Maine, and at the Argosy Gallery in Bar Harbor.
