Note: There is space for 3 adults and 3 children (12+ years old) in this class. Please only register the adult and then reach out to the School office where we will be happy to help you register your child.

Join us during FAMILY WEEK for fun and adventure while learning the basics of sea kayaking! While exploring and playing around the islands and coves of Brooklin, Maine, you will learn how to control your kayak, rescue yourself and others, use a chart and compass to navigate, predict conditions using weather forecasts, and how to dress appropriately to stay safe. Be prepared to swim in cool ocean waters.  This course is designed for pairs of one adult and one youth over the age of 12. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult.

Kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, and life jackets will be provided by the school, but students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own if desired.

  • Who is this course best suited for?

    This course is appropriate for someone with little or no experience.  The course is designed around the idea that you have not done this before or know very little about the subject.  Students should pay more attention to suggested readings or videos to help familiarize themselves ahead of time.

    This course involves a high level of activity throughout the week Including: having good balance and agility to get in and out of boats on a beach or rocky shore, moving about in small boats or kayaks, sustained rowing.
