AGNESS & DELL was built in 1940 in Newfoundland as a Grand Banks cod fishing schooner. She is a 46′ traditional gaff-rigged fishing vessel known in her home waters as a jack schooner. In 1980 she was bought from the original builder/fisherman and brought to Maine where she was completely rebuilt. Although her fish hold has been converted to living accommodations, she retains all of the salty charm of this type of vessel. Her heavy displacement (28 tons), 14′ beam, and open deck space offer a stable and comfortable platform on which to experience big-boat sailing. For those days when there is no wind, an auxiliary diesel engine will allow plenty of time to hone ship handling skills under power. Her owner, Capt. John Gandy of Blue Hill, is planning some long-range voyaging aboard AGNES & DELL in the future.
