MARITIME DETAILS IN WATERCOLOR
Using both transparent and opaque watercolor techniques.
- AMY HOSA — SEPTEMBER 7–13
Whether we are in the midst of barnacle-covered boulders and tide pools, surrounded by boatbuilders in the shop, or sitting on a stone pier, the goal of this course will be to focus on the world at our fingertips. For example, such compositions might feature a patch of barnacles on a lichen-covered rock; or gull feathers and lobster shell tangled in a clump of seaweed; a rippled reflection of a boat’s transom on the water; or loosely curled wood shavings atop a tool-covered workbench.

Gouache, pronounced “gwash,” is opaque watercolor—a great companion to transparent watercolor with a unique set of rules. Amy will demonstrate gouache-layering techniques and detailed brushwork so you can paint stunning three-dimensional forms with rich color and texture. Seaside locations and subjects will vary each day alongside the beautiful Eggemoggin Reach and surrounding area. Throughout the week, instruction will be a combination of classroom and on-site demonstrations. Amy will also instruct students in sketching basics and composition as needed. All experience levels will enjoy this fascinating week!
Tuition: $650
