SUSAN LAVOIE is a teacher in the Burlington, Vermont, public school system specializing in music, drama, and piano. When not busy in the classroom, Susan can usually be found out on the water sailing. She is “The Past Commodore” of the Blue Water Sailing Club based in Boston, Massachusetts, and over the years has been responsible for organizing cruise activities, and developing seminars focusing on safety, medicine, navigation, electronics, and racing techniques. Susan also organizes and instructs yearly seminars in Boston directed toward women on safety, charting, GPS, navigation, and seamanship. In 1990 she organized and developed a Junior Sailing Program at the Jubilee Yacht Club in Beverly, Massachusetts. She has taught beginner, intermediate, and advanced sailing to kids and adults alike. Susan wrote and illustrated a book for beginner and intermediate sailors, Sailing Safely and How to Get Home. Susan has cruised extensively in coastal waters and offshore in addition to years of dinghy and onedesign racing. She currently teaches music in an elementary school in Burlington, Massachusetts.
