JOHN HARRIS designed and built his first wooden boat at age 14 and, except for a brief diversion to earn a degree in music, has done nothing but build boats for a living ever since. He has worked at Chesapeake Light Craft, purveyor of wooden boat kits and plans, since 1994. Now the owner and CEO, John divides his time between designing boats, building prototypes, teaching boatbuilding classes, and answering email. Playing in small boats and in jazz bands are John’s singular passions. He lives on Kent Island in the Chesapeake Bay.
