Clint Chase, a former high school science teacher and weather technician on Mt. Washington, is a graduate of The Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design. There he trained in modern wood & composite construction. In 2006, he fused his education background with boatbuilding when he was Head Boatbuilder for the Compass Project in Portland, Maine. During that tenure he supervised and built over 100 small boats with kids and adults, witnessing every conceivable mistake a fledging boatbuilder could impart on their boat. (His favorite mantra is “always make new mistakes”). Then, at the start of the economic slump, he did what any sane person would do: started his own boatbuilding and boat kit business! Since then he has expanded his design catalog to include nearly 2 dozen boats and continues to build specialty oars, hollow-birdsmouth masts/spars, and the kits for all his favorite sail and rowboats. Clint lives and works in Portland, Maine and enjoys rowing across the waters of Casco Bay and beyond with his musical wife, Ellie Osborn Chase, and two wicked cute children, Oliver and Jia.
